Used with our Nursery children, this screening assessment quickly identify areas of concern in language, communication, and interaction development in order to ensure early targeted intervention. This may be delivered in small groups or with individual children.

At Dewi Sant, we use Infant Language Link to screen children in Reception and Year 1 in order to identify and support children with mild to moderate Language and Communication Needs so that we can deliver suitable interventions. The assessment will also identify any children who may have more severe language needs, such as Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), so that these children can be considered for further investigations and diagnostic assessment with our Outreach SLCN service.

We also use a screening tool for pupils from Year 3 onwards. Pupils who have been identified by staff or parents as having difficulties in their understanding of language are assessed using this tool and intervention strategies are delivered through small group and targeted individual activities.

The Dyslexic Early Screening test is used in Year 1 to evaluate whether a young child is experiencing specific difficulty of a dyslexic nature.

In KS2, we may offer to screen your child if a concern has been raised about a pupil’s literacy progress, with specific difficulties associated with dyslexia. Please note, that this is not a means for a diagnosis of Dyslexia, however it helps us identify those children who would benefit from further diagnostic assessments or support from specialist teachers.

From year 2 upwards, this self-assessment tool is used for children to note their feelings and emotions within the school, and will alert staff to any areas of need such as friendships, anxiety and emotions.
